Did you know that your baby should have his first checkup within a few months of receiving his first tooth or at the very latest, by his 1st birthday if he does not yet have any teeth?
This is in an effort for your child to create a positive relationship with the dentist as well as to give us a baseline on your child's oral health. The appointment is not scary and is simply a chance for us to talk to you about your child's oral health and what you might need to expect in the future.
What to Expect at the First Dental Appointment
At your child's first dental appointment, we will look inside your baby's mouth, assessing any teeth that have already erupted as well as the gum tissues. We are able to detect any issues early on and discuss them with you. In addition, we will talk to you about your child's habits, such as thumb sucking or pacifier use as well as his diet. If your child drinks out of a bottle, we will discuss the appropriate time to stop this habit as well as what is acceptable to drink out of the bottle. It is our goal to help you set your child up for good oral hygiene habits and good overall oral health starting from a young age to help prevent serious problems in the future.
