Why Does the Mouth Heal so Fast?

Posted on 3/31/2015 by Truman Nielsen
Why does the mouth heal so fast? Have you ever noticed how easy it is to scratch up the inside of your mouth but then find in just a short while that the pain and the scratch are all gone? Sometimes it takes just a few short hours for the scratch, or other issue to be healed. In general, this is much faster than other parts of the body.

How the Mouth Heals

When compared to the tissues of skin that are on the outside of your body, the tissue in the mouth has the tendency to fix itself much faster. There are several reasons for this. First, the mouth is composed of mucous tissue so it is much easier to remodel and create compared to other skin. In addition, the neck and head are a recipient of large amounts of blood, so that even though the wound may seem to bleed excessively, since it is close to the regions that are plentiful in blood, the healing occurs much faster than any other area of the body.

Ways to Speed Up Healing Process

There are some simple things that you can do to speed up the healing in your mouth if it seems to be taking longer than normal. One way is to take a cup and place a little water inside; swish this mixture in your mouth in order to help the area seal the wound better. You can also use a bag of black tea to help prevent any infections; this is possible due to the tannins that are inside the tea.

As a reminder, when your mouth gets harmed it is important to keep it clean so that infections do not occur. Brushing your teeth and following the proper oral hygiene is the best way to ensure that this occurs.
